JEFF LORBER FUSION

Jeff Lorber (piano) | Jimmy Haslip (bass) | Sonny Emory (drums)

Born in Philadelphia, multi Grammy-nominated keyboardist, composer and producer Jeff Lorber began playing the piano at the age of four. In the mid 70’s, during his stay at the Berklee College of Music, he formed “Jeff Lorber Fusion” and issued the group’s self-titled debut in 1977. Soon, the band became one of the most popular jazz acts of the period, touring nonstop. Their 1980 album “Wizard Island” made the introduction of a then little-known Kenny G. In 2010, the band scored their first Grammy nomination for the album “Now Is The Time”, followed by the nomination for “Hacienda” in 2013. In 2018, the Jeff Lorber Fusion album “Prototype” finally won the Grammy Award for “Prototype”. JLF-longtime collaborator and Grammy Award winning bassist Jimmy Haslip was a founding member of the jazz fusion group “The Yellowjackets”, which he left in 2012. Jimmy started playing drums at age seven and then moved onto other instruments such as trumpet and tuba before discovering electric bass when he was 13. Although he is left-handed, he started with a right-handed bass and learned to play it upside down (without restringing). The band also includes Grammy Award winning drummer Sonny Emory – a former member of Earth, Wind & Fire. Sonny is a native of Atlanta who received his first drum set at the age of four. After graduating from Georgia State University with a Bachelor in Jazz Performance, he began his transition into becoming a professional drummer playing with Joe Sample and the Crusaders. With over 30 years of live performance and studio work behind him, Sonny has additionally played with artists that include Bruce Hornsby, Jennifer Lopez, Lee Ritenour, Bette Midler, Steely Dan, Spyro Gyra and Eric Clapton.
